The best new hotels this week:

Conrad Nagoya
Hilton has opened its third Conrad hotel in Japan with the debut of the brand in Nagoya, the capital of Aichi prefecture.

Villa Dorothéa
Boutique hotel opens in five interconnected 19th-century houses in Lisbon, close to the River Tagus.

Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere, in Italy's Piedmont region, has been restored and reopened as a five-star retreat.

An 18th-century monastery in the hills of northern Italy has been transformed into a boutique hotel managed by Atmosphere Core, a company best known for its all-inclusive properties in the Maldives.

Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere, the second project in the brand’s portfolio, is in the Langhe region in Piedmont, in the province of Cuneo. The monastery, which dates back to 1752, lies at the heart of the village of Monchiero which has a population of less than 600.

Formerly the Antico Borgo Monchiero hotel, the restoration project was carried out under the supervision of Italy’s Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape Authority. The 25 rooms — 19 in the monastery and six in the adjacent villa — reflect the building’s history, retaining its character while adding modern features.

Marriott International and Therme Group enter 'strategic alliance' as the hotel group seeks to capitalise on the growth of the wellness market.

Following the recent joint venture between Marriott International and the wellness brand Lefay, the hotel giant has entered into a strategic alliance with Therme Group.

The Austrian wellness company currently operates five resorts, with several more in the pipeline, and has raised funding in the past two years to further its expansion plans, with its expertise in thermal bathing.

The Marriott Design Lab will lead the collaboration as Therme advises on how new products and services can improve hotel operations and the travel experience. The first development will see Therme destinations being offered to Marriott Bonvoy members.
